Here at the Co-op, the health, safety, and wellbeing of our colleagues is important to us. The Co-op celebrates diversity and challenges inequality. We are committed to nurturing an inclusive and diverse community of colleagues.

To make sure that every colleague thrives, we believe that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect and be free from any form of bullying, harassment, or discrimination. This extends to our contractors, suppliers and visitors.

To support this, we have a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment and discrimination. This means:

  • We’ll not tolerate any form of bullying, harassment or discrimination, and we’ll take responsibility to speak up if we see or experience it
  • We’ll treat all allegations seriously
  • We’ll always take appropriate, proportionate and timely action
  • We’ll learn from our experiences to help continually improve

We recognise that being zero tolerant means different things in different situations; it could mean disciplinary action up to and including dismissal, while in other cases informal action may be more appropriate.

Zero tolerance doesn’t mean going outside our usual policies or making hasty decisions, it means following a fair process, whilst treating everyone with dignity and respect. Anyone found to be making false or malicious complaints will be dealt with under the appropriate disciplinary procedures.

Zero tolerance isn’t about anticipating that no incidents will occur; what’s important is for us to surface and address matters appropriately, proportionately, and promptly.

Zero tolerance is everyone’s responsibility, helping make us all feel safe at work, to be ourselves and making our Co-op a fair and great place to work.
